Optimized Turning Grades Series–for Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Aluminum and Super Alloys

Some argue that turning is easy, but with a continuous engagement driving thermal generation and challenges such as interrupted cut, it is essential to choose the most suitable turning insert grades according to the machining situation, balancing wear resistance and toughness to maximize productivity.

YG-1 offers a wide range of turning grades for each material such as steel, stainless steels, cast iron, aluminum and super alloys, and provides the best machining strategy for the customers worldwide.

[For Steel: "YG1001", "YG3010", "YG3015", "YG3020" and "YG3030"]

YG-1’s turning grades for steel are the YG1001, YG3010, YG3015, YG3020 and YG3030. YG1001 grade provides the highest level of wear resistance in continuous machining operations, especially in high speed machining. YG3010 and YG3015 grades are recommended for general and continuous machining. In particular, YG-1’s new grade, YG3015 prevents chipping problems and realizes stable machining performance with superior wear resistance and toughness balance.

YG3020 is a grade that can be used both for continuous and interrupted machining and is always a safe starting point for versatility. YG3030 provides the optimal toughness, offering a predictable process even in the most demanding applications such as unstable conditions and interrupted machining.

[For Stainless Steel: "YG211", "YG3030", "YG213" and "YG214"]

YG211, YG3030, YG213 and YG214 grades are YG-1’s turning solution for stainless steel. YG211 grade shows an excellent performance under stable machining conditions, and is specially designed for high wear resistance. YG3030 is a CVD grade for turning at elevated speeds. YG213 is used in general machining of stainless steel, offering outstanding balance of wear resistance and toughness. In the demanding stainless applications such as highly interrupted or cast skin/forging scale, YG214 offers stable performance without chipping or breakage. Especially, YG214 combined with MR geometry shows excellent performance for machining HRSA (Heat Resistant Super Alloys) materials.

In addition, YG211 and YG213 are both available not only for stainless steel but also for super alloys machining as auxiliary grades.

[For Cast Iron: "YG1001" and "YG3010"]

YG-1’s turning grades for cast iron machining include the YG1001 and YG3010 which show optimal performance in both steel and cast iron machining. Specifically, YG1001 is recommended for gray cast iron, and YG3010 for ductile cast iron.

[For Aluminum: "YG10" and "YG100"]

YG10 and YG100 are specialized turning grades for the turning of aluminum. YG10 is an uncoated grade which is suitable for general machining of aluminum. For the notoriously difficult to machine high silica content aluminums, the DLC coated YG100 shows outstanding wear resistance
